Applying for a Temporary Permit on eCitizen is a straightforward process that allows Kenyans to travel to East African countries without needing an official passport. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to apply for a Temporary Permit online, including the necessary documents and payment procedure.

Countries You Can Travel to with a Temporary Permit

  • Tanzania
  • Uganda
  • South Sudan
  • Burundi
  • Rwanda

Requirements to Apply for the Temporary Permit

  • Personal Details: Height, place of residence, country traveling to, occupation.
  • Identification: National ID and copy for adults; birth certificate and copy for minors.
  • Passport Photo: A recent photo with a white background.
  • Next of Kin: ID numbers, names, and phone number.

Temporary Permit Application Procedure

  1. Access eCitizen Portal
    • Open your browser on your phone or PC.
    • Go to eCitizen and click on “Login”.
    • Enter your ID number or email and eCitizen password, then click “Login”.
    • Enter the OTP sent to your phone or email.
  2. Navigate to Immigration Services
    • On the eCitizen Dashboard, locate the panel showing “Department of Immigration Services” and click on it.
    • Alternatively, you can directly access it via this link.
  3. Apply for Temporary Permit
    • Scroll down and click on “Temporary Permit”.
    • Select the applicant (self or for a minor), then click “Next”.
  4. Fill in Personal Details
    • Complete the required personal details, including next of kin information.
    • Validate the information and click “Next”.
  5. Upload Passport Photo
    • Upload a recent passport photo with a white background.
    • Submit your application.
  6. Payment
    • You will be redirected to the payment page.
    • Select M-PESA and send the payment prompt to your phone.
    • Pay the total fee of Kes. 350 (Kes. 300 for the permit and Kes. 50 for the eCitizen convenience fee).
    • Click on “Complete”.
  7. Print Documents
    • After payment, print the processed documents, including the invoice and the Temporary Permit itself.

  • Permit Fee: Kes. 300
  • eCitizen Convenience Fee: Kes. 50
  • Total: Kes. 350

By following these steps, you can easily apply for and obtain a Temporary Permit through the eCitizen portal, allowing you to travel to various East African countries.
