Biography
His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was born in 1991 in Doha, Qatar, where he received his early education. He pursued higher education at the University of Southern California in the United States (US), graduating in 2015 with an Exemplary rating in Public Policy. Subsequently, he earned a master’s degree in Public Diplomacy from the same university in 2017.
Career
In 2015, His Excellency embarked on his career in the Internal Security Force, known as “Lekhwiya”, where he distinguished himself by securing first place with “Excellence” in the officer induction course. He assumed an Officer rank and joined “Lifdawiya”, a special unit operating under “Lekhwiya”.
Between 2015 and 2018, His Excellency participated in approximately 13 military training courses held in Qatar, the US, and France, covering various fields including counterterrorism, urban combat, explosives disposal, problem-solving, decision-making, parachuting, diving, negotiation tactics during crises, VIP protection, and riot control.
His contributions extend to ensuring safety and security during major events, including securing two editions of the FIFA Club World Cup in 2019 and 2020. Additionally, in 2020, he became a member of the National Security Council and the Steering Committee of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC). He also served as a member of the supervisory committee for the first Shura Council elections in 2021, while leading operations for the FIFA Arab Cup and the Formula 1 World Championship.
In 2021, His Excellency assumed the role of Assistant Chairman of the Tournament Operations and Safety Committee for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. He oversaw supervisory operations for the “Watan” security exercise in the subsequent years. In 2022, he was appointed Commander of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ Security Operations and President of the National Risk Management Team.
In March 2023, His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was appointed Minister of Interior.
