Acting Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, has refuted claims regarding the arrest of former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi following Thursday’s chaotic scenes at a funeral attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in Limuru, Kiambu County.
Speaking on Friday, November 29, Kanja clarified that Mwathi had not been arrested and was not under police investigation. He also stated that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Limuru have launched a probe to uncover the cause of the disruption and apprehend those responsible.
Kanja urged members of the public with relevant information to report to the nearest police station to assist in identifying the perpetrators behind the commotion at the burial.
The clarification came after some of Gachagua’s allies, including Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa, visited DCI headquarters in Kiambu County demanding Mwathi’s release. The senator alleged that Mwathi had been abducted by unidentified individuals in a black Subaru and called for urgent investigations into the events, including an alleged attempt on Gachagua’s life.
“We are here at the DCI to demand swift investigations into the events where hired goons, allegedly linked to the government, attempted to harm Rigathi Gachagua,” said Senator Thang’wa. “We also want answers regarding the whereabouts of former MP Peter Mwathi, who was reportedly abducted.”
