Biography
His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Abdullah Al Thani assumed the role of Minister of Commerce and Industry in October 2021.
Career
His Excellency holds numerous prestigious positions within the State of Qatar. He serves as a member of the Supreme Council for Economic Affairs & Investment and chairs the Boards of Directors of Masraf Al Rayan, Qatar Stock Exchange, and the Advisory Board of the Investment Promotion Agency. Additionally, he holds key positions such as Deputy-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Qatar Development Bank and membership in the Boards of Directors of Qatar Investment Authority and QatarEnergy. He is also a member of Qatar University’s Board of Trustees.
Previously, His Excellency served as Deputy-Governor and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Qatar Central Bank and Deputy Chairman of the QFC Regulatory Authority from March 2018 to October 2021. He also chaired the Board of Directors of the Qatar Financial Markets Authority from November 2018 to October 2021. Earlier in his career, he held roles such as Director of Risk Management at Qatar Central Bank and Secretary of the Personal Representative of His Highness the Amir for follow-up affairs.
Responsibilities
As Minister of Commerce and Industry, His Excellency oversees various aspects related to the ministry, including:
- Supervising commercial and industrial activities within the State of Qatar.
- Developing methods and procedures to enhance public services for the business and investment sector.
- Regulating trade professions and issuing necessary licenses for commercial and investment establishments.
- Supervising market regulation and control within its jurisdiction.
