Biography
His Excellency Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad bin Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani assumed the role of Minister of Culture in October 2021.
Career
With a strong background in the cultural sector, His Excellency held various significant positions over the years. He served as the Head of the Gulf and Arab Monitoring Department at the Ministry of Culture from 2006 to 2010 and was a member of the Doha Capital of Culture Committee in 2010. Subsequently, between 2010 and 2014, he worked at the Office of His Highness the Crown Prince at the Amiri Diwan.
From 2011 to 2014, His Excellency served as the Director of the Media Development Department at Qatar Media Corporation, followed by his appointment as the Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Media Corporation until 2021. Additionally, he is a member of the Boards of Directors of Al Jazeera Media Network and the Doha Film Institute.
Education
His Excellency holds a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Qatar University. He also participated in several training programs at Al Jazeera Media Institute and Qatar News Agency.
Responsibilities
As Minister of Culture, His Excellency oversees various aspects related to the ministry, including:
- Establishing rules and principles for the growth and development of culture in Qatar.
- Ensuring the effective participation of all segments of society in Qatari cultural activities.
- Enhancing Qatar’s position among nations through cultural diplomacy.
- Promoting institutional values such as professionalism, creativity, participation, and honesty within the cultural sector.
