Entebbe Airport Sets Record with Highest Monthly Passenger Traffic in July 2025

ENTEBBE, UGANDA: Entebbe International Airport has marked a historic milestone, recording its highest-ever monthly passenger traffic in July 2025, with a total of 230,577 travelers. This surge in passenger numbers signifies Uganda’s growing stature as a regional travel hub, bolstered by increased airline connectivity, international events, and strategic tourism campaigns.

  • Key Drivers Behind the Growth
    • 1. Enhanced Airline Connectivity
    • 2. Successful Tourism Campaigns
    • 3. International Conferences
  • Cargo Handling Surge
  • Future Prospects for Entebbe Airport
  • Conclusion

Record-Breaking Passenger Traffic

Of the 230,577 passengers, 119,127 were arrivals and 111,450 were departures, averaging 7,437 passengers per day. This marked a notable increase over the previous record set in December 2024, when the airport processed 222,301 passengers. This growth highlights the surge in inbound travel, with arrivals slightly exceeding departures.

Aviation experts attribute this record to various factors, including the arrival of delegations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and increased tourism promotion efforts by the Uganda Tourism Board. Moreover, international conferences hosted in Kampala and surrounding areas also contributed to the influx of foreign delegates.

Key Drivers Behind the Growth

1. Enhanced Airline Connectivity

One of the key contributors to the rise in passenger numbers was improved airline connectivity. With new routes and increased flight frequencies from both local and international carriers, Entebbe International Airport has become more accessible to travelers worldwide.

2. Successful Tourism Campaigns

The Uganda Tourism Board’s increased efforts to attract both leisure travelers and business visitors were pivotal in boosting the airport’s traffic. Targeted campaigns showcasing the country’s national parks, lakes, and cultural sites have drawn more international tourists, keen to explore Uganda’s rich natural heritage.

3. International Conferences

Entebbe’s positioning as the primary gateway for international conferences in Uganda also played a significant role in the increase of passenger numbers. Events in Kampala and nearby areas have attracted a steady flow of foreign delegates and business leaders traveling through Entebbe Airport.

Cargo Handling Surge

Apart from passenger traffic, cargo operations at Entebbe also saw significant growth in July 2025. The airport handled a total of 5,863 metric tonnes of cargo, with 3,961 tonnes of exports and 1,902 tonnes of imports. This further underscores Entebbe’s role as a vital hub for trade and commerce in East Africa.

Future Prospects for Entebbe Airport

As the airport continues to grow, analysts predict that with continued investment in infrastructure and regional airline partnerships, Entebbe International Airport could soon handle over 10 million passengers annually. This would cement its position as one of East Africa’s busiest air hubs, contributing significantly to Uganda’s economy through tourism, trade, and international events.

Conclusion

The record-breaking traffic figures for July 2025 are a testament to Uganda’s increasing importance as a global travel destination. With continued improvements in airline services, airport infrastructure, and tourism promotion, Entebbe International Airport is poised to become a central player in regional and international aviation. The milestone also positions Uganda for sustained economic growth through tourism and trade.
