Mavoko water and sewerage company limited (MAVWASCO) was formed in the year 2006 inline with the water sector reforms as enshrined in the water act 2002.The company has a service provision agreement (SPA) with Tanathi water works development agency and is licensed and regulated by the Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB) to supply water within its specified area of jurisdiction which includes Syokimau, Mlolongo, Athiriver, Kinanie and Kyumbi areas of Mavoko Sub-county. The company has a functional board of directors constituted from key stakeholders within the service area. The county government of Machakos has 100% shareholding of the company. MAVWASCO´s area of jurisdiction is approximately 693km2 with a population of about 200,000 people.
The current water coverage is at about 67% of the service area while sewerage coverage is at about 15%. The customer base of MAVWASCO includes domestic, institutional, commercial and industrial customers with a 100% metering ratio.
The company has a formalized Service Provision Agreement (SPA) and license from Tanathi Water Service Board (WSB) which has the mandate of water service provision in its area of jurisdiction. The area covered by MAVWASCO has a population of approximately 150,000 people
