List of elected MCAs in Langata Constituency 2022. Nairobi City County’s Lang’ata Constituency is a voting district. It is among the county’s seventeen constituencies. It is made up of Nairobi’s southwest and southern regions. The boundaries of the now-defunct Kibera Division of Nairobi and the Langata constituency were shared. With a total area of 196.80 km³ (76.0 sq mi), it is the largest constituency in Nairobi. When the 1963 elections were held, it was known as Nairobi South Constituency; however, since the 1969 elections, it has been referred to as Lang’ata Constituency.
The largest slum in Kenya, Kibera, borders Lang’ata Constituency and was a part of it prior to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission creating Kibra Constituency; nonetheless, a smaller portion of the slum remains a part of Lang’ata Constituency.
Together with the Nairobi National Park and Lang’ata Barracks, which served as the home of the King’s African Rifles during British colonial authority, the affluent neighborhood of Karen and the primarily middle class suburb of Lang’ata are all included in the Langata Constituency.
Felix Odiwour is the representative for the Lang’ata Constituency in Kenya after the general election of 2022. Nixon Korir served as the constituency’s parliamentary representative prior to this. From 1966 until 1967, Joseph Murumbi, the first Langata MP, was Kenya’s vice president. Kenya’s first white member of parliament was Philip Leakey, a former MP from Langata.
The former spouse of Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai, Mwangi Mathai, is another notable former Langata MP.
