How to become a Mwangaza Party member is a rising concern among Kenyans eager to embrace a new political direction rooted in transparency, accountability, and people-first leadership. To switch or register afresh, the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has simplified the process through its USSD service and web portal. This guide will walk you through resigning from your current party and officially joining the Mwangaza Party.

In May 2025, former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza announced plans to revitalize the Mwangaza Party ahead of the 2027 general elections. She aims to use the party as a vehicle to champion the interests of the Meru community and other regions, positioning it as a formidable force in Kenyan politics.


Step 1: Resign from Your Current Political Party

Before registering with the Mwangaza Party, ensure you’ve officially resigned from any other political party you may be affiliated with.

Option A: Resign via USSD Code *509#

  1. Dial *509# on your mobile phone.
  2. For first-time users, register using your ID number and first name.
  3. Receive your unique ORPP PIN via SMS.
  4. Dial *509# again and enter the PIN.
  5. Select “Membership”, then choose Option 3: Resign.
  6. Confirm your resignation by verifying your details.

Option B: Resign via the ORPP Portal

  1. Visit the Integrated Political Parties Management System (IPPMS) or log in through eCitizen.
  2. Register or sign in using your ID number and first name.
  3. Navigate to the “Membership Resignation” section.
  4. Enter the OTP sent to your phone and confirm resignation.
  5. Check your status to ensure you’re no longer listed under any political party.

Step 2: Register as a Mwangaza Party Member

Once you’ve resigned successfully, proceed to register as a member of the Mwangaza Party.

Option A: Register via USSD Code *509#

  1. Dial *509#.
  2. Enter your ORPP PIN.
  3. Select “Membership” and choose “Join a party”.
  4. Enter party name: Mwangaza Party.
  5. Input the party code: 061.
  6. Provide your county, constituency, and ward codes.
  7. Review and confirm your details to complete registration.

Option B: Register via the ORPP Portal

  1. Log in to the IPPMS portal or through eCitizen.
  2. Navigate to the “Join a Party” section.
  3. Choose Mwangaza Party from the list.
  4. Fill out and submit your application accurately.
  5. Await official approval for your membership to reflect.

Important Tips

  • Always use accurate ID and contact information.
  • Use the same phone number for both resignation and registration.
  • For assistance, visit the ORPP website or reach out to Mwangaza Party offices directly.
