Ruiru Sports Club Membership Guide and Fees

Ruiru Sports Club, founded in 1922 as a tennis club, is located along the Thika Superhighway between Ruiru and Juja, near the Ruiru KenHA Weighbridge. The club offers a variety of recreational facilities, highlighted by a Par-73, 18-hole Kenya Golf Union (KGU)-registered golf course, a bowling green, and a semi-Olympic swimming pool.

Additional amenities include a restaurant, clubhouse, event grounds, a golf shooting range, practice greens, and helipad facilities available to both members and non-members.

Membership Categories

Ruiru Sports Club welcomes members across a range of categories:

Full Membership: Members are elected under regulation 5 and must be up to date with annual subscriptions. Includes voting rights at General Meetings and eligibility for committee roles.
Family Membership: Covers a legal spouse and children under 20 years.
Junior Membership (under 24 years): For children of Full or Life Members aged 16–24, with a specific fee structure. Transition to Full Membership is available at age 24 upon payment of applicable fees.
Life/Senior Membership: Reserved for members aged 65+ with at least 25 years of consecutive membership. Approved at the AGM upon Executive Committee nomination. Exempt from annual subscriptions but subject to games fees.
Temporary Membership: Granted upon payment of green fees, allowing access to club facilities for a day.
Honorary Membership: Awarded by the Executive Committee for one year to individuals providing exceptional service to the club or community.
Reciprocating and Associate Members: Members of affiliated clubs with reciprocal arrangements, granting facility access as per agreed terms.
Corporate Membership: For registered institutions that pay membership fees for their employees.
Absentee Membership: Former Full Members living 100km or more from the club, elected by the Management Committee. They pay specific fees and retain Full Member benefits, excluding voting rights.
Non-Resident Membership: For individuals residing outside Kenya who frequently visit. Entrance and annual subscription fees are determined by the Executive Committee.
Student Membership: Available for students aged 21+ whose parents are Full or Life Members. Students must be enrolled full-time in a recognized institution and can transition to Full Membership within a year after completing their studies.

New Membership Requirements

To join Ruiru Sports Club, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Be proposed by a Full or Life Member of the club.
Initially introduced as a guest by the proposer.
The proposer must submit an introduction letter to the membership secretary.
Complete an application form provided by the membership secretary.
The proposer secures a seconder for the applicant.
The applicant is introduced to as many committee members as possible.
At least eight committee members must endorse the application form.
Submit the completed application form alongside a cheque or EFT for the applicable membership fee.
