Brigadier Samuel Macharia was a distinguished Kenyan military officer who notably served as the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to both President Jomo Kenyatta and President Daniel arap Moi. His career is marked by significant contributions to Kenya’s military and political history. Aide de Camp Col. Macharia

Early Career and Role as Aide-de-Camp

Brigadier Macharia began his military service in the Kenya Army, where he rose through the ranks due to his dedication and leadership skills. He was appointed as the ADC to President Jomo Kenyatta, serving as the personal assistant and military aide to the Head of State. In this capacity, he was present at critical moments, including being at President Kenyatta’s bedside when he passed away in August 1978.

Following President Kenyatta’s death, Brigadier Macharia continued his role as ADC under President Daniel arap Moi, becoming Moi’s first ADC. He resumed his duties two months after Kenyatta’s passing, demonstrating his adaptability and the trust placed in him by the new administration.

After his tenure as ADC, Brigadier Macharia continued to serve in various capacities within the Kenyan military. He was also involved in community service, notably serving as a trustee of the Edelvale Trust since January 1997 and as a member of the Jamaa Mission Hospital Technical Committee.
