In an effort to improve the effectiveness and security of its systems, the Kenya Railways Corporation has provided guidelines for encouraging passenger safety when boarding and exiting trains. Kenya Railways Adopts Eight Safety Measures for Train Travel.
Kenya Railways emphasizes that the safety of its customers, staff, partners, and members of the public both inside and outside of its trains comes first.
Among the safety precautions include following the yellow line, holding off on opening the doors, and using grab bars for support.
Stand behind the yellow line until the train comes to a complete stop.

The purpose of the yellow line is to keep people from inadvertently falling down the railroad tracks or getting hit by passing trains.
Being close to the line may cause vertigo, which raises the possibility of someone falling into the rails.
Do not force doors open or attempt to board when the train is leaving the platform.
It is recommended that passengers who miss their train wait for the next one on the timetable instead than trying to catch one that is already moving.
Allow other passengers to step off the train before you board.
This minimizes waiting time on round journeys by ensuring a seamless transition between those boarding and those alighting. Additionally, it keeps passengers from colliding and falling.
Station attendants and train crew will assist passengers with special needs to board the train.
Employees working at stations have received training on how to deal with disabled passengers, including how to give them precedence while boarding and disembarking.
If you are travelling with a pram or a shopping trolley, board at the front carriage so you are visible to the driver.
Train operators have established special standards for passengers carrying heavy luggage. These recommendations include instructions on how to board and exit the train and make sure that the designated areas are used for heavy luggage.
When boarding the train, enter the pram first and lift the back in if the train isn’t level with the platform.
When stepping off the train, make sure you get off first and then draw the pram towards you. This will maintain stability and prevent trips and falls due to the even distribution of weight on the pram.
Use the grab rails to steady yourself when boarding or alighting to steady yourself.
Grab rails are positioned carefully to provide passengers with stability when boarding and disembarking from trains, particularly where there are flimsy platforms situated on train entrances.
Prepare to alight before reaching your destination station.
This proactive strategy reduces the amount of time wasted at different drop-off locations. When the train stops, however, people should make sure they have something to grab onto in order to stay balanced.
The company has urged the public to follow the provided instructions in an attempt to safeguard the safety of its customers and to further lower the number of mishaps and delays that occur when traveling by rail in the nation.
The Kenya Railways Corporation Act states that anyone traveling, with or without permission, in any area of a train, vessel, or vehicle other than those usually reserved for passenger use is not entitled to compensation in the event of an accident or injury involving the train.
“The Corporation shall not be liable for the loss of life of, or for personal injury to, any passenger except where the loss of life or personal injury is caused by the want of ordinary care, diligence or skill on the part of the Corporation or of any employee,” the Act states in part.
