Tala Loan App (One of the Best Mobile Loan Apps in Kenya)

Tala Loan

Tala is one of the most established mobile loan apps in Kenya, now offering a Line of Credit (LOC) service that allows customers to access short-term personal loans. This transformation marks a significant shift in how Tala provides financial services, aligning with evolving customer needs for flexibility and continuous access to credit.

Tala Loan App Overview

  • Launch Year: 2014
  • Operational Countries: Kenya, Tanzania, Mexico, India, Philippines
  • App Rating: 4.4 stars out of 5 on Google Play Store
  • Loan Limits: KES 1,000 to KES 50,000
  • Interest Rates: Monthly rates from 4% to 34%; APR ranges from 78.21% to 273.75%
  • Loan Tenure: Up to 61 days with the possibility to extend
  • M-PESA Paybill Number: 851900
  • Communication Channels: Email at [email protected], Facebook page, and official website Tala.co.ke

Features of Tala Line of Credit Tala’s LOC model is designed to provide repeated access to funds within a set credit limit, offering a flexible and dynamic borrowing experience. Users can withdraw multiple loans as long as the total amount does not exceed their assigned credit limit. This feature is particularly beneficial for managing cash flow and addressing unexpected financial needs without repeated application processes.

Application Process

  1. Download and Install: The Tala app is available for Android devices and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. Unfortunately, there is no iOS version available currently.
  2. Registration: New users must register by providing personal details and linking their M-PESA accounts for loan disbursement and repayments.
  3. Credit Assessment: Tala evaluates creditworthiness using data from the user’s smartphone and their M-PESA transaction history.
  4. Accessing Credit: Once approved, users can draw funds up to their credit limit at any time, with the flexibility to choose the amount and the repayment schedule within the app.

Repayment Options Tala offers various repayment options to suit different financial situations. Borrowers can make payments via Tala’s M-PESA Paybill number 851900 or directly through the app using the M-PESA Xpress feature. Early repayment is encouraged to improve credit limits and reduce interest costs.
