Yinxiang Group (银翔集团) is a Chinese industrial company based in Chongqing. Founded in 1997, the group originally focused on motorcycles, gasoline engines, and general-purpose equipment before expanding into the automotive sector through multiple brand collaborations and joint ventures. Over time, Yinxiang became known for its role in producing affordable passenger cars, crossovers, and MPVs, often in cooperation with BAIC Group.
Though the company faced financial struggles in the late 2010s, its influence remains significant in shaping Chongqing’s role as a hub for automotive and motorcycle manufacturing.
Yinxiang Motorcycle
The company’s roots began with Yinxiang Motorcycle (银翔摩托), a brand established in 1997. It quickly gained a presence in the domestic and international markets, producing scooters, motorcycles, and small-displacement engines. The motorcycle division remains one of the group’s foundational businesses.
Automotive Ventures
Huansu (Discontinued)
In partnership with BAIC Group, Yinxiang launched the Huansu (幻速) brand under the BAIC Yinxiang joint venture. It produced a range of crossovers, SUVs, and MPVs, such as the Huansu S2, S3, S5, S6, S7, H2, and H6.
- Popular models like the Huansu S3 became affordable choices in China’s second-tier cities.
- Production stopped in 2018, and Yinxiang’s financial troubles prevented a restart in 2019.
- By 2021, Huansu was discontinued and replaced under the Ruixiang restructuring.
Bisu (Discontinued)
Building on its BAIC experience, Yinxiang created Bisu, a brand specializing in crossovers and MPVs.
- Key models included the Bisu M3, T3, and T5.
- The brand targeted young families seeking stylish yet budget-friendly vehicles.
- Production ended in 2020, marking Bisu’s discontinuation.
Weiwang
Weiwang (威旺), another BAIC Yinxiang joint venture, concentrated on compact MPVs, minivans, and CUVs. Notable vehicles included the Weiwang M20, M30, M35, M50F, and S50. This lineup provided practical, multi-passenger transport tailored to China’s urban and suburban markets.
Ruixiang (Successor Brand)
Following Yinxiang Group’s bankruptcy in 2021, a restructuring led to the creation of BAIC Ruixiang Automobile (北汽瑞翔汽车).
- Financial backing came from BAIC Group, the Chongqing government, and Yinxiang’s remaining assets, totaling 2 billion yuan.
- Ruixiang launched with the X3 and X5, while also rebranding vehicles under the Boteng series (V1, V2, M3).
- New energy models such as the Ruixiang C5 EV and Hoen O2 (formerly Qingchengshidai VC) demonstrate its shift toward the electric future.
Legacy and Transformation
Although Yinxiang Group declared bankruptcy in 2021, its automotive DNA survives in Ruixiang. The group left behind a legacy of motorcycle innovation, budget-friendly family cars, and ambitious joint ventures that influenced China’s mid-market automobile sector. Today, Ruixiang continues the path originally carved out by Yinxiang, but with a stronger focus on electric vehicles and government-backed restructuring.
