Spotify is now beta testing a highly anticipated feature for iOS users: AI audiobook recaps. This feature is designed to enhance the audiobook listening experience by providing summaries of the content up to the point where the listener last left off. This new tool will help users quickly resume their listening without the need to re-listen to previously heard chapters.
How AI Audiobook Recaps Work
The AI audiobook recaps feature is a game-changer for audiobook fans, particularly for those who listen to books in segments or take breaks between listening sessions. The Recap button will appear above the chapters section in the app, but only if the user has listened to at least 15 minutes of the audiobook.
Much like the “previously on” segment of TV shows, these recaps will summarize the key events from the audiobook, allowing users to easily re-engage with the story. This feature aims to reduce friction and improve the flow of listening, making it more intuitive and user-friendly. The recaps will cover only the sections that the listener has already heard, ensuring that it remains relevant and timely.
Availability and Expansion Plans
Currently, the AI recap feature is limited to a small selection of English-language audiobooks, but Spotify has confirmed that it plans to expand this feature to a broader range of titles in the future. This move is part of Spotify’s ongoing effort to make audiobook listening more seamless and enjoyable for users.
New Shuffle Control Features for Premium Users
In addition to the AI audiobook recaps, Spotify has also rolled out an updated shuffle control feature for Premium users. The Fewer Repeats feature, available in the Settings tab under the Playback menu, will reduce the chances of recently played songs repeating in shuffle mode. This feature ensures a fresher and more varied listening experience, further enhancing the platform’s appeal to users.
Looking Ahead: Enhanced Audiobook Experience
Spotify’s foray into AI-powered audiobook features is a promising development for audiobook listeners. With recaps helping users seamlessly pick up where they left off and the new shuffle features enhancing music enjoyment, it’s clear that Spotify is aiming to improve the overall user experience across both audiobooks and music. As the feature expands, audiobook fans can look forward to an increasingly user-friendly platform.
