You can send money from Kenya to Rwanda on your mobile directly via M-PESA Global to an MTN or Airtel mobile money account, or by using other international money transfer providers like Airtel Money and WorldRemit.

Using M-PESA Global

M-PESA Global enables direct transfers to MTN Rwanda and Vodacom Tanzania mobile numbers.

  1. Opt in to M-PESA Global via the M-PESA App or by dialing *334# (or *840#) and accepting the terms and conditions.
  2. Select “Send Money” or “M-PESA Global” in the app or USSD menu.
  3. Enter the recipient’s phone number in the international format (e.g., 250xxxxxxxxxx).
  4. Enter the amount you want to send in KES.
  5. Review the exchange rate and total charges displayed in a pop-up message.
  6. Confirm the transaction with your M-PESA PIN.

Using Other Mobile Transfer Providers

  • Airtel Money: You can send money to other Airtel Money registered users within the network across countries including Rwanda.
    • Dial *334# and select the relevant option to send money abroad or use the My Airtel App.
  • WorldRemit: This service offers transfers directly to MTN, Airtel, and Tigo mobile wallets in Rwanda, as well as bank accounts or cash pickup locations.
    • Download the WorldRemit app, select Rwanda as the destination, and choose “Mobile money” as the receive method.
  • Mukuru: The Mukuru app facilitates sending money for instant cash collection or directly to mobile wallets in Rwanda.
    • You can create your order on their app or via WhatsApp to send money.

Always check the current exchange rates and fees within the respective apps before making a transfer to ensure you get the best value.
