How to Invest 1 Million Shillings in Kenya (Tips and Ideas)

You can send money from Kenya to Sao Tome and Principe on your mobile using international money transfer services such as WorldRemit, Western Union, and MoneyGram. Direct transfers to a local “mobile money account” are not yet widely available, so transfers are primarily for cash pickup or bank account deposits.

Using WorldRemit

WorldRemit supports bank transfers and cash pickups in Sao Tome and Principe.

  1. Create an account on the WorldRemit app or website.
  2. Select “Sao Tome and Principe” as the destination country and choose a receive method like Bank transfer or Cash pickup.
  3. Enter the recipient’s details, which for cash pickup requires their full name (matching their ID), or for bank transfer, their bank name, account number, etc.
  4. Enter the amount in Kenyan Shillings (KES) you wish to send.
  5. Pay for the transfer using a bank transfer, debit, or credit card.

Using M-PESA Global via Western Union

You can use M-PESA Global to send funds for cash collection at a Western Union agent location in Sao Tome and Principe.

  1. Opt in to M-PESA Global via the My Safaricom App or by dialing *334# (or *840#) and accepting the terms.
  2. Open the M-PESA App or dial the USSD code and select “M-PESA Global”.
  3. Choose “Western Union Location” as the receiving method.
  4. Follow the prompts to enter the recipient’s full name (as it appears on their ID), select the destination, and enter the amount.
  5. Confirm the transaction details and enter your M-PESA PIN.
  6. Share the provided tracking number (MTCN) with the recipient. They will need this number and their ID to collect the cash at a local Western Union agent in Sao Tome and Principe.

Using MoneyGram

MoneyGram also allows sending money to Sao Tome and Principe via their app for cash pickup.

  1. Download the MoneyGram app.
  2. Select Sao Tome and Principe as the destination.
  3. Enter the recipient’s details and choose cash pickup as the delivery method.
  4. Pay for your transfer in the app and share the reference number with your recipient for cash collection.
