How to Remove a Jeep Soft Top

Removing the soft top on your Jeep allows you to enjoy open-air driving. Follow these steps to safely remove the back windows and fold back the soft top.

Part 1: Removing the Back Windows

1. Undo the Velcro and Zippers
   • Lift the edge of the soft top slightly to access the Velcro on top of the side windows.
   • Unzip the zippers running along the two sides of the window completely.
2. Remove the Sail Flaps
   • Gently pull the sail flaps out from the bottom edge of the window where they are tucked into the vehicle’s exterior.
   • Lay the windows flat or store them vertically behind the back seats to avoid bending.
3. Roll Up the Back Window(Optional)
   • Unzip the left and right sides of the rear window, leaving the top attached.
   • Roll the window tightly toward the interior and secure it with elastic straps.
4. Remove the Back Window Completely(For a Cleaner Look)
   • Unzip the back window fully and pull up the bottom bar to loosen it.
   • Store the window flat to prevent scratches or bends.

Part 2: Folding Back the Soft Top

1. Undo the Header Latches
   • Lower the sun visors and move them to the side.
   • Pull the black latches above the driver and passenger seats toward you to undo them.
   • For partial opening, flip the top back after undoing these latches.
2. Remove Back Corner Flaps
   • Tug gently at the bottom corners of the soft top to free the sail flaps from the vehicle.
   • Fold the corner flaps on top of the roof.
3. Press Down the Door Jamb Latches
   • Above the front doors, press down on the latches to unlock the soft top. The top will start folding back.
4. Release Additional Latches (4-Door Models Only)
   • For 4-door Jeeps, release the two additional latches located on the exterior of the vehicle.
5. Fold the Top Accordion-Style
   • Fold the top inward in an accordion or W-shape.
   • Secure the folded top with Velcro straps to keep it in place.

Tips

• Store windows and the soft top carefully to avoid damage.
• If you only want partial open-air driving, undo the front latches and flip the top back without removing the rear windows.

• Ensure the soft top is securely folded and strapped to prevent it from coming undone while driving.
