George Oduor, a long-serving aide to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has died after being hospitalised for two weeks at Nairobi Hospital. Oduor passed away on Wednesday evening, marking the end of more than two decades of loyal service to one of Kenya’s most prominent political figures.
A Familiar Face in Raila’s Inner Circle
Often seen at the side of Raila Odinga during public events, Oduor was more than a bodyguard — he was a trusted companion and confidant. His presence behind Raila became a familiar and reassuring sight to ODM supporters over the years.
Emotional Tributes Pour In
ODM Party’s Communications Director Philip Etale mourned the loss on social media:
“This is one man who stood by me at all costs. I have lost a friend. Big bro. Rest Easy, George.”
Robert Alai, Kileleshwa MCA, remembered Oduor not just as an aide, but as a mentor:
“You were more than an aide to Baba. You offered us brotherly advice and sought to mentor us.”
Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi described him as:
“A soldier who has seen it all, a man of all seasons! George has been Baba’s most dependable bodyguard.”
A Legacy of Loyalty and Service
Oduor’s commitment to Raila’s cause earned him the respect of ODM leaders, politicians, and youth leaders across the country. He was known for his reliability, humility, and behind-the-scenes support of party activities and security.
Awaiting Raila’s Statement
As of press time, Raila Odinga had not yet issued a public statement on Oduor’s passing. However, the news is widely seen as a major personal and professional loss for the former Prime Minister and the ODM fraternity.
George Oduor’s death closes a long chapter of dedicated political service. He leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, humility, and unwavering support to one of Kenya’s most influential leaders.
