Nairobi, Kenya | May 28, 2025 A political storm is brewing in Kenya following explosive allegations of a staged abduction purportedly designed to gain sympathy for Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The incident, which has captured national attention, is raising serious questions about the extent to which political actors might go to manipulate public sentiment and sway public discourse.
At the center of the controversy is a Subaru vehicle — initially reported to belong to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) — which has now been allegedly traced back to a sitting Member of Parliament from Juja. A photo circulating online shows the vehicle’s number plate KQQ 803B, with accusations that the abduction narrative may have been fabricated to serve political interests.

Critics have slammed the stunt as dangerous manipulation that undermines public trust in national institutions and endangers the security of ordinary Kenyans. Social media erupted in condemnation, with users demanding accountability, transparency, and justice.
“This is not leadership — it’s manipulation. It’s not patriotism — it’s betrayal. Kenya is not a playground for political theatrics,” one user wrote in a widely shared post.
The allegations come amid increasing political tension as the 2027 elections draw nearer. Observers say that weaponizing fake abductions to elicit sympathy or tarnish opponents could have serious consequences, including eroding the democratic process and inciting unrest.
Calls are mounting for a full investigation into the incident, with citizens urging law enforcement and investigative bodies to uncover the truth and prosecute those responsible.
“We cannot let a few individuals burn down the fabric of our democracy for selfish gain,” the statement continues. “Let the truth come out. Let justice prevail.”
The incident has once again brought into focus the fragility of political ethics in Kenya and the need for stronger enforcement of accountability measures.
