Michael Jordan

Michael Jeffrey Jordan (born February 17, 1963), also known as MJ, is an American businessman, former professional basketball player, and cultural icon. Widely regarded as the greatest basketball player of all time, Jordan played 15 NBA seasons, winning six championships with the Chicago Bulls and earning five NBA MVP Awards. Early Life and College Career

Born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina, Jordan excelled in multiple sports before focusing on basketball. At Emsley A. Laney High School, he initially failed to make the varsity team but later became a standout performer. He accepted a scholarship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he hit the game-winning shot in the 1982 NCAA Championship. Jordan was named College Player of the Year in 1984 before declaring for the NBA draft.

NBA Career

Jordan was selected third overall by the Chicago Bulls in the 1984 NBA Draft. His electrifying style and leaping ability earned him nicknames like “Air Jordan” and “His Airness”.

  • First Three-Peat (1991–1993): Jordan and the Bulls won three consecutive championships, cementing their dominance.
  • First Retirement and Baseball (1993–1995): After his father’s death, Jordan briefly retired and played baseball for the Chicago White Sox organization.
  • Return and Second Three-Peat (1996–1998): Returning to the NBA, Jordan led the Bulls to another three titles, including a record 72–10 season in 1995–96.
  • Washington Wizards (2001–2003): Jordan came out of retirement once more, playing two seasons with the Wizards before retiring for good in 2003.

By the end of his career, Jordan amassed 32,292 points, holding the NBA’s highest career scoring average of 30.1 points per game.

National Team Success

Jordan also starred on the international stage, winning gold medals at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, the 1992 Barcelona Olympics with the legendary Dream Team, and other international tournaments.

Jordan married Juanita Vanoy in 1989, with whom he had three children, before divorcing in 2006. In 2013, he married Yvette Prieto, with whom he has twin daughters. He also became a grandfather in 2019.
