Leapmotor has advanced its global design ambitions with the official opening of the new Shanghai Design Center, a move that strengthens its transition toward a multi-hub creative network. The company confirmed that the new facility will operate alongside design centers in Hangzhou and Munich, creating a three-city collaborative structure that will guide future vehicle design. Because Shanghai offers a strong talent base and a mature automotive supply chain, the new hub is positioned to support deeper integration between international and local teams. This expanded arrangement also enhances coordination across product development stages, improving design continuity and helping Leapmotor achieve faster execution cycles.
The Shanghai center plays a central role in Leapmotor’s global framework. It will integrate advanced design tools and support both digital and physical modeling to reinforce aesthetics, quality, and innovation. Cao Li, the company’s design lead, emphasized that the cross-continental system allows every center to contribute simultaneously. As a result, the teams can refine ideas quickly while maintaining a unified vision. This structure also ensures that design decisions reflect global consumer expectations. Furthermore, Leapmotor aims to strengthen its design identity under the “Tech-Natural Aesthetics” philosophy, which recently entered its second development phase.
The new setup aligns with Leapmotor’s current product direction, especially as it prepares for the official debut of the Lafa 5. The model opened pre-sales on November 7 and was jointly designed by the Shanghai and Munich teams. Positioned in the RMB 100,000 to 150,000 segment, the Lafa 5 targets young buyers who prefer modern styling and accessible pricing. Its launch supports Leapmotor’s plan to secure stronger footing in the competitive budget EV category, particularly as new entrants intensify pressure across the market. The Shanghai hub will also house a Design Quality module responsible for monitoring design execution and maintaining consistency across all models.
Leapmotor Strengthens Its Global Design Ecosystem
Leapmotor’s expanded network gives the company a stronger foundation for global design coordination. Additionally, plans to establish an innovation center in Europe will deepen research into localized tastes and strengthen the brand’s ability to tailor products to regional markets.
