Lang’ata Cemetery, one of the largest public cemeteries in Kenya, is managed by the Nairobi County Government and located on Lang’ata Road, approximately 7 kilometers from Nairobi’s CBD. Established as a final resting place for people from diverse backgrounds, it serves those who may prefer burial within the city due to financial or logistical reasons, especially for those without rural homes.
Lang’ata Cemetery Cremation Charges
Due to limited burial space, the Nairobi County Government promotes cremation as an alternative, charging:
- Adults: Ksh 16,500
- Children: Ksh 12,000
Lang’ata Cemetery Grave Charges
The cemetery offers both permanent and temporary graves, with costs varying depending on the type of grave and circumstances.
(i) Permanent Graves
Permanent graves are leased for 99 years, allowing families to bury one individual on top of another.

- Adults (died within Nairobi): Ksh 30,500
- Adults (died outside Nairobi): Ksh 40,000
- Non-citizens: Ksh 50,000
- Children: Ksh 4,000
- Infants: Ksh 2,000
(ii) Temporary Graves
Temporary graves are shallow (4 feet deep) and may be reused after approximately 10–15 years.
