What is Safaricom Postpay?

Safaricom Postpay is a subscription-based service that allows users to consume data, minutes, and SMS before paying their bill at the end of the month. Unlike prepaid plans, where you pay in advance for the services you use, postpay customers get a bill for their usage at the start of every month. If you no longer wish to use this service, you can opt out and return to a prepaid plan.

How to Unsubscribe from Safaricom Postpay

There are several ways to unsubscribe from Safaricom Postpay, and the method you choose depends on your preference and convenience. Below are the various ways to unsubscribe:

1. Via Customer Service (Call or Visit)

To cancel your Safaricom Postpay subscription, you can contact Safaricom customer service. There are two main options:

  • Call 100 (for prepaid customers) or 200 (for postpaid customers) from another Safaricom line. The call is free.
  • Alternatively, you can visit a Safaricom Shop in person, where the customer service team will help you through the process of unsubscribing.

When contacting customer service, you will need to provide:

  • Your ID number to confirm your identity.
  • Your postpay mobile number (the one you want to cancel).

Once your identity is confirmed, they will begin the process of unsubscribing you from Safaricom Postpay and transfer you to a prepaid plan.

2. Via Email

You can also unsubscribe from Safaricom Postpay by sending an email to [email protected]. In the email, include:

  • Your name.
  • Your mobile number.
  • A request to switch back to prepaid.

Safaricom will respond to your email and process the change within a few business days.

3. Unsubscribe via USSD Code

If you’re subscribed to Advantage Postpay, you can easily unsubscribe by using the USSD code:

  1. Dial *200# on your phone.
  2. Select “Advantage Plus” from the menu.
  3. Click the “Unsubscribe” button.
  4. Wait for up to 24 hours to receive a confirmation SMS.

Once unsubscribed, your line will be reverted to prepaid status and you will receive your deposit back within 48 hours.

4. Automatic Unsubscription Due to Non-Payment

If you fail to pay your postpay bill for three consecutive months (90 days), Safaricom will automatically terminate your postpay service and transfer you to a prepaid plan. However, it’s better to contact customer service proactively to avoid this and ensure your deposit is refunded.

Important Points to Note When Unsubscribing from Safaricom Postpay

  • You must pay your final bill before unsubscribing. Failure to do so may result in unresolved charges or issues when transferring to prepaid.
  • Deposits: When you subscribe to Safaricom Postpay, you are required to make a deposit (ranging from Kshs 1,000 to Kshs 10,000, depending on the plan). This deposit is refundable when you cancel the service.
  • Billing: Your billing cycle starts on the 1st of every month, and you will receive your bill via SMS and email. Ensure you’ve paid your bill before unsubscribing.
