Why Deactivate Your Safaricom Line?

There are several reasons why you might need to deactivate your Safaricom line:

  • Lost or stolen SIM: If your SIM card is lost or stolen, it’s important to deactivate it immediately to avoid unauthorized use.
  • SIM swap: Fraudsters may try to swap your SIM for malicious purposes. Deactivating the line helps prevent such incidents.
  • Stopping unwanted subscriptions: If you’re subscribed to various services, you may want to deactivate your line to stop unwanted charges.

How to Deactivate Safaricom Line

1. Contact Safaricom Customer Service

To block your Safaricom SIM card from being used, you need to contact Safaricom customer service. Here’s how:

  • Dial 100 (for prepaid customers) or 200 (for postpaid customers) from another Safaricom line. The call is free of charge.
  • Dial +254 722 002100 (prepaid) or +254 722 002200 (postpaid) for chargeable lines.
  • Provide identification: Be ready to answer security questions, including your ID number, to confirm you are the account owner.

Safaricom will block your SIM card, preventing anyone from accessing your account or using the line.

2. Deactivating SIM Swap Requests

SIM swap fraud is a growing concern, as fraudsters may attempt to take over your phone number. If you suspect your SIM is at risk of being swapped, take immediate action:

  • You will receive a notification saying, “Dear customer, we have received your SIM SWAP request.”
  • To stop the request, dial 100100# from your Safaricom line. This will cancel the SIM swap request.

Please note, only the line that the SIM swap request was made on can cancel the request. If the process is initiated on another line, you cannot stop it from your own number.

Once cancelled, you may need to visit a Safaricom customer service center with your ID to replace your SIM if necessary.

3. Stop Auto-Renewal Subscriptions

If you notice frequent deductions from your Safaricom account for subscriptions you don’t remember, it’s likely that you have auto-renewal subscriptions enabled. Here’s how to stop them:

Stop Auto-Renewal for Data Bundles

To stop auto-renewing data bundles, follow these steps:

  • *Dial 100# and select the “Buy” option.
  • Choose No-Expiry Bundles and select “Stop Auto-Renew”.

Alternatively, you can use *USSD code 544# and follow the same steps.

Stop Promotional Message Auto-Renewal

To stop receiving promotional messages from Safaricom, use these steps:

  1. Dial *456#.
  2. Select the “Stop” option.
  3. Choose “Stop Promotional Messages”.
  4. Confirm by selecting “No” when prompted.

You will then receive a confirmation that you will no longer receive promotional SMS from Safaricom.

4. How to Block Safaricom SIM Card Online

If you have lost your SIM card, you can block it online. Here’s how:

  1. Go to the official Safaricom website.
  2. Enter the lost SIM number and provide a backup email or phone number.
  3. After submitting the request, a customer service representative will contact you to finalize the SIM deactivation.

5. Cancel Call Forwarding

Call forwarding allows your incoming calls to be redirected to another number. If you’ve accidentally activated this feature, it can be deactivated with the following steps:

Cancel All Call Diverts

To cancel all call forwarding settings on your phone, dial ##002# or ##21#. You’ll receive a notification confirming that all call diverts have been removed.

Cancel Call Forwarding for Specific Cases

Use the following codes depending on the situation:

  • ##61#: Cancel forwarding when your phone call goes unanswered.
  • ##67#: Cancel forwarding when your phone number is in use.
  • ##62#: Cancel forwarding when your phone number is unreachable.

6. How to Unsubscribe from Safaricom Services

To stop receiving unwanted services or subscriptions that are depleting your airtime, you can unsubscribe using USSD or SMS.

  • *Dial 100# (for prepaid) or 200# (for postpaid).
  • Select “My Subscriptions” to view and manage your active subscriptions.
  • Choose “Active Subscriptions” to unsubscribe from them.
SMS Unsubscription

If you’re subscribed to a premium service, you can send the premium text message to 200975 or send the sender’s name to 2009075 to unsubscribe. You will receive a confirmation SMS.
