Application Procedure

  1. Visit the Palace of Justice
    All applicants must apply in person at the Palace of Justice in Togo.
  2. Prepare Required Documents
    Bring originals and legalized copies of the following:
    • Birth declaration or equivalent document for the applicant
    • Parents’ certificate(s) of nationality
    • ID photograph
    Additional cases:
    • For a spouse applying through marriage: provide birth and marriage certificates, and the husband’s nationality certificate.
    • For a child born in Togo: provide birth declarations for both parents and the child, proof of residence, and a social investigation report.
  3. Submit Application & Pay Fees
    Present all documents and pay a fee of 5,000 F CFA.
    The registry will confirm your eligibility and provide collection instructions.

Applying From Abroad

If you live outside Togo, contact the nearest Togolese Embassy or Diplomatic Mission. The consular section will help guide you through the nationality request process and forward the documents to Togo for processing.

Eligibility Criteria

You may apply for a Certificate of Nationality if you are:

  • Born to Togolese parents
  • A foreign spouse of a Togolese citizen (married and legally residing in Togo)
  • A child born in Togo to parents who meet nationality requirements

Required Documents

  1. Applicant’s legalized birth declaration or official substitute
  2. Legalized copy of parents’ nationality certificates
  3. Passport-sized ID photo
  4. For spouses:
    • Husband’s nationality certificate (legalized)
    • Wife’s birth and marriage certificates (legalized)
  5. For children born in Togo:
    • Birth declarations of mother, father, and child
    • Proof of residence
    • Social inquiry/investigation report
