Eric Kotut, a Kenyan businessman, served as the fourth Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya from 1988 to 1993. His appointment is often attributed to his personal connections, as his father shared a church and a close relationship with then-President Daniel arap Moi. Kotut’s tenure as governor was marred by the infamous Goldenberg scandal, which significantly impacted Kenya’s economy, costing it more than 10% of its annual GDP. Despite the controversy, Kotut managed to have his name removed from the Bosire Report on the Goldenberg scandal by the High Court of Kenya in 2008, which investigated the financial malpractices.
