Victor Mbuvi, professionally known as Dr Mbuvi, is an award-winning Kenyan gospel musician, comedian, and TV presenter. Dr Mbuvi was born Victor Mbuvi in Kenya. He drew inspiration for music from his mother, who encouraged his love for singing before her passing in 1999—just a year before he launched his professional career.
He attended Kionyweni Primary School in Machakos County, before moving to Unity Primary School in Umoja Estate, Nairobi, when his parents were transferred for work. His father worked as an auditor, while his mother was a banker.

Dr Mbuvi began his music career in the early 2000s as a member of the group His Image, known for its a cappella gospel performances and renditions of folk songs. The group modernized traditional pieces, including a Luo gospel folk song titled Niwara Nono.
In 2001, he briefly teamed up with gospel producer R Kay and a friend to form Injili Group, which released his breakthrough single Nisamehe. The song became his first hit, launching him into national recognition.
