Requirements for a Commercial Pilot License in Kenya

    • Certified that the applicant is prepared for the required knowledge test applicable to the aircraft category and class rating sought.
  4. Knowledge Test: Pass the required knowledge test on the applicable aeronautical knowledge areas.
  5. Aeronautical Experience: Meet the required aeronautical experience as stipulated in the applicable provisions for the aircraft category and class rating sought before applying for the practical test. These flight hours are detailed on the aeronautical experience form.
  6. Training and Endorsement: Receive the necessary training and a logbook endorsement from an authorized instructor who:
    • Conducted the training on the areas of operation relevant to the aircraft category and class rating sought.
    • Certified that the applicant is prepared for the required practical test.
  7. Practical Test: Pass the required General Flight Test (GFT) on the areas of operation that apply to the aircraft category and class rating sought.
  8. English Language Proficiency: Pass the English Language Proficiency exam and attain one of the following levels:
    • Operational Level (Level 4) – Valid for 3 years
    • Extended Level (Level 5) – Valid for 6 years
    • Expert Level (Level 6) – Valid for life

CPL Application Requirements

Applicants for the Commercial Pilot License must submit the following documentation and forms:

  6. Fees: Payment of the prescribed application fee of Ksh 4,500.

To renew a CPL in Kenya, pilots must fulfill the following requirements:

  1. Renewal Application Forms:
    • Form M-PEL003-1 for CPL (Aeroplanes)
    • Form-M-PEL003-2 for CPL (Helicopters)
    • Form-M-PEL003-3 for CPL (Balloons)
