Chief Nderi Wang’ombe hailed from Kamakwa in Nyeri Town Constituency. On Thursday, October 23, 1952, he was brutally hacked to death in a banana grove. He and a constable accompanying him had attempted to stop a Mau Mau oath-taking ceremony in the Thegenge area of Tetu, from where Kimathi Wachiuri hailed.
Contrary to some claims, Chief Nderi Wang’ombe did not have the name Gachagua as part of his name, despite references on Wikipedia and assertions by certain politicians. Wikipedia, being editable by anyone, can sometimes present inaccuracies.

Any alleged kinship association between Chief Nderi and the Deputy President (DP) is unfounded and more a matter of “politricks” than fact. The Gachaguas are actually from Hiriga, Mathira.
