Metropolitan Life Kenya, a subsidiary of Momentum Metropolitan Holdings “MMH” from South Africa, had been operating in Kenya since 2007, offering life insurance solutions to retail and corporate clients. MMH is an authorized financial services provider listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. It is one of the four biggest insurers in South Africa and has operations in several African countries (nine excluding South Africa), the United Kingdom, as well as in India. Metropolitan Life Kenya by 2013 held a solid position in the marketplace and managed to increase market share.
Following the acquisition of a majority stake in Cannon Assurance by MMH, Metropolitan Life Kenya successfully merged with Cannon Assurance at the beginning of 2015. After the merger, Metropolitan Cannon was born, and the life insurance licenses were consolidated into one, and retained the stand-alone general insurance license. Metropolitan Cannon (the combined business – Life & General) then became part of the MMH.
In 2022, our local shareholders of Metropolitan Cannon stepped forward to acquire MMH’s interest in Metropolitan Cannon. As the South Africa based MMH made the conscious decision to focus its interests on the southern regions of Africa, the local shareholders decided to secure our interests in the Kenyan sphere. Since its inception in 1964, the Cannon brand in insurance has stood the test of time in the Kenyan market and therefore it was a natural decision to reconnect with its roots and relaunch a ‘New’ Cannon as we evolve to meet the changing needs of our clients.

The General Insurance arm of the business encompasses Insurance other than ‘Life Insurance’ This is the category of Insurance that comprises of insurance of property against fire, burglary, floods, political violence and terrorism etc, personal insurance such as Accident and Health Insurance, and liability insurance which covers legal liabilities.
There are also other covers such Errors and Omissions insurance for professionals and Directors, credit insurance etc.
There are General Insurance products to cover property against Fire and allied perils, flood, storm and inundation, earthquake and so on. There are also products that cover property against burglary, theft, Hold up etc.

- Enter your Policy or Claim Number in full e.g. 01/02/1000/10
- Enter the amount you wish to pay (between Ksh.100 to 35,000)
- Enter your M-PESA PIN
- Confirm details are correct, and then click OK to complete the transaction.
- M-PESA will send a confirmation message with payment details immediately.
How to Pay Cannon Assurance Premium using Airtel money
- Go to Airtel
- Click on Airtel Money
- Select make payments
- Select Paybill
- Click on Other
- Type in Business name ‘CANNON’
- Enter amount and pin
- Enter your policy or claim number on the reference field
- You will receive confirmation of the transaction via SMS
