Battery capacity quantifies the amount of electrical charge a battery can hold, related to the active material’s mass within it. This capacity denotes the total energy extractable from the battery, measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh). The complexity arises as some electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers specify the net (usable) capacity, some the gross (total) capacity, and some provide both. Gross capacity refers to the entire capacity installed, whereas net capacity is the portion actually available for use, with the discrepancy serving as a buffer. We document all the data provided by manufacturers, though not all figures for every battery are publicly disclosed.
Generally, a higher battery capacity translates to a longer vehicle range, assuming other factors remain constant.
