The newly launched Apple AirPods Pro 3 battery setup brings both gains and trade-offs for users. Apple’s latest premium earbuds introduce major upgrades, including double the active noise cancellation (ANC) performance, a built-in heart rate monitor, and live translation features. However, while the earbuds themselves last longer, the charging case has taken a step back.
The AirPods Pro 3 buds now deliver up to 8 hours of continuous playback, up from 6 hours with the previous generation. But when combined with the charging case, the total listening time drops to 24 hours. That’s 6 hours less than the AirPods Pro 2, which offered 30 hours in total. This means the case battery has been significantly reduced, adding only 16 hours compared to the 24 hours provided by the earlier model.

Apple hasn’t revealed the exact battery capacity in milliamp-hours, leaving teardown experts to confirm it later. Interestingly, the buds themselves are slightly smaller and lighter, weighing 5.55g each, compared to 5.3g on the Pro 2. The new case is physically larger in dimension yet lighter overall at 43.99g, down from 50.8g, strongly suggesting a smaller internal battery.
Despite this, the Pro 3 lineup keeps some familiar hardware. The earbuds still use Apple’s H2 chip, while the case upgrades to the U2 chip for improved precision in the Find My feature. Performance tests show that the new heart rate monitor impacts usage time. With workout mode and Transparency mode enabled, the earbuds last 6.5 hours. Without workouts, they can push to 10 hours with the Hearing Aid feature and Transparency mode.
For most users, the compromise might be acceptable. The AirPods Pro 3 earbuds last longer per charge, making them more reliable for workouts and daily use. Still, heavy listeners who rely on frequent top-ups from the case may find the reduced capacity disappointing. Apple appears to have prioritized advanced health features and new software functions over maximizing total battery endurance in this generation.
