YouTube has announced two new features aimed at empowering creators with easier promotion and improved content localisation—a built-in Promote button within YouTube Studio and the option to upload alternate thumbnails for translated or dubbed videos.
The changes come as part of the platform’s ongoing efforts to simplify creator tools, especially for those managing their content without access to advanced marketing resources.
New Promote Feature Simplifies Video Advertising
Until now, promoting videos on YouTube required going through Google Ads, a process that was often complex and inaccessible for many small or mid-level creators. The new Promote button, now being integrated into YouTube Studio, offers a streamlined path to boosting content visibility.
Creators can now:
- Promote their videos directly from their dashboard
- Set basic targeting options, including location and audience interests
- Launch a promotion without leaving the YouTube platform
While not as robust as the full Google Ads suite, this in-app tool dramatically lowers the barrier for entry into paid video promotion, giving more creators the opportunity to expand their reach without needing extensive advertising knowledge.
Custom Regional Thumbnails for Translated and Dubbed Content
YouTube is also testing a feature that lets creators upload alternate thumbnails for videos that include translated or dubbed audio. This enhancement is especially valuable for reaching international audiences, where text and visual cues in thumbnails may not resonate universally.
For example, a thumbnail designed with English text and cultural imagery might confuse or alienate viewers in Spanish-speaking markets—even when the video itself is dubbed appropriately. With this new feature, creators can now present regionally appropriate thumbnails, improving both click-through rates and viewer engagement.
AI-Powered Translation with Human Oversight
To support the thumbnail translation process, YouTube is leveraging AI tools such as DittoDub to extract and translate on-image text. These auto-generated thumbnails are then reviewed by humans to ensure:
- Tone and cultural context are preserved
- Translations maintain clarity and emotional impact
This hybrid approach helps maintain authenticity while scaling localisation efforts across a global audience.
What It Means for Creators
These updates mark a major step forward for accessibility in creator tools, especially for those without marketing teams or external agencies. By integrating promotion and localisation directly into YouTube Studio, YouTube is empowering a broader range of users to grow their audiences, reach new markets, and build more culturally aware content.
