Barron, the youngest son of Donald Trump, was raised in the White House but now lives a private life.
The former president and wife Melania Trump found out they were expecting a child not long after they were married in 2005. On March 20, 2006, Barron was born, marking Melania’s first child and Donald’s sixth.
Barron was raised in the opulent penthouse of his family in New York City and went to esteemed private schools located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Barron and Melania remained in Manhattan after Donald was elected president and took office in January 2017 so that he could complete his academic year.
In the summer, he moved into the White House with the rest of the family and started attending St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Maryland.
Barron’s seclusion was strictly maintained, even though Donald’s elder children, Ivanka, Donald Trump Jr., Eric, and Tiffany, participated more actively in their father’s presidential campaign. Melania has kept her kid out of the spotlight even after Donald’s tenure ended.
In the midst of the twice-impeached former president’s legal troubles, which include state and federal investigations and lawsuits, a source told PEOPLE in March 2023 that “Barron has always been a first priority in [Melania’s] life.”
“Of course she is worried and concerned about the legal issues, but she has not done anything more to protect Barron now than she ever did,” said the insider. “She has prioritized him always. She’s a capable mother.”
Melania has previously talked about her relationship with Barron and her views on motherhood. “I understand what it takes to raise a child because I am a mother. It takes a great amount of strength, a lot of time, a fair amount of patience, and all of our love,” Melania shared during a Mother’s Day event in 2018.
She said, “Because of the powerful bond between a mother and her child, when they feel emotions, so do we – whether they are happy or nervous, sad or excited, we feel those things with them. It is, in my opinion, one of the most lovely and potent aspects of parenthood.
In an interview with Megyn Kelly in September 2023, Donald gave respect to his youngest kid.
“Barron is an excellent sportsman. He’s a decent young man. He’s a cute young man. He’s an excellent learner,” he said.
Here is all you need to know about Barron Trump, the son of Donald and Melania Trump, from his early years growing up in New York City to his time in the White House and beyond.
Donald was surprised to find out Melania was expecting
About six months after being married, Donald and Melania learned in 2005 that they were having their first child together. Melania reflected on the moment she told Donald she was expecting a child and said her husband was a little surprised.
“I told him he would be a father when he came home one day in August of last year.” And his initial response was that he needed to process it. It caught me off guard. She told NS, “And he was extremely delighted after that.
Donald went on, “I wasn’t really shocked since I thought we would have kids. But the pace of it caught me off guard. It took place really swiftly.
Barron was born in March 2006
Barron was born on March 20, 2006, to Melania. He weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces. Donald stated that he felt it would be “easier” for Melania if he wasn’t there when he made the decision to stay out of the delivery room. Later on, Melania said that her eight-hour labor had been “very, very easy.”
“Everyone is flawless. It’s pretty amazing, and she’s incredibly thrilled,” Donald told NS after the baby was born.
Donald chose the name Barron
Donald had always loved the moniker, but hadn’t had the opportunity to use it for his other boys, so he recommended it for the young child before Barron was even born. Melania was on board, but Donald changed his mind about the name at the last minute.
“I’ve always loved this name, but I’ve never had the guts to use it. Melania replied, “You can’t take it away!” as I tried to take the concept away from her at the very end. You really can’t take it away—I’ve been naming him Barron since he’s been in my stomach. On The Oprah Winfrey Show, Donald said.
He was an “amazing” baby
Melania revealed that Barron was a “amazing” baby after his first birthday, despite having a lot of energy that was occasionally difficult to control. He had uttered his first words and was now walking, she said.
He is really intelligent and serious. He says “Dadada and Mama” while moving and speaking. He’s absolutely an incredible child and he throws a lot of stuff.
Melania went on, “Motherhood is amazing—there’s really nothing like it,” in response to a question about how she was adjusting to being a first-time mother. It’s bringing everything together. We need to attend to this additional individual. Excitement abounds, but so is responsibility.
The new parents sent another update on their then-20-month-old son a few months later.
“He enjoys learning-based toys. He’s telling me what he wants to read; he loves books,” Melania remarked.

“He’s a very smart, very solid young guy,” Donald said.
Barron has attended school in New York, Maryland and Florida
Barron went to a lot of elite schools as a child. He attended Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School on Manhattan’s Upper West Side while he was a resident of New York City. Barron finished his academic year in New York City after Donald took office as president in January 2017. Barron’s enrollment at Potomac, Maryland’s St. Andrew’s Episcopal School was then confirmed in May.
“We are very excited for our son to attend St. Andrew’s Episcopal School. It is known for its diverse community and commitment to academic excellence. The mission of St. Andrew’s is ‘to know and inspire each child in an inclusive community dedicated to exceptional teaching, learning, and service,’ all of which appealed to our family. We look forward to the coming school years at St. Andrew’s,” Melania said

The Trumps spent around $40,000 a year on tuition at St. Andrew’s. Barron’s enrollment broke with the tradition of prior first families, such as the Obama, Bush, and Clinton families, who all sent their kids to the private Quaker school Sidwell Friends, which has campuses in Washington, D.C., and Bethesda, Maryland.
Barron will be attending Oxbridge Academy in Palm Beach, Florida, where he will graduate with the class of 2024, it was announced after Donald Trump’s time as president ended in 2021.
He took his classmates on a field trip to the White House
In the last year of his studies at Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School, Barron organized a field trip to Washington for his whole fifth grade class.

Barron went to the White House with a group of roughly eighty pupils, instructors, and Secret Service officers. It was then that they met Barron’s father. Before leaving back home, the party had an overnight stay at a hotel and a tour of the country’s capital.
He speaks both English and Slovenian
Barron speaks Slovenian, which is Melania’s native tongue, as well as English. Melania claims that when Barron was younger, he would frequently contact his grandma and would only speak Slovenian to her. Melania supported Barron’s ability to speak more than one language, but she also said that she and her husband agree on which language Barron should speak in public.
Donald says Barron is 6 feet, 7 inches tall
Donald said that his teenage son, who is now six feet seven inches tall, already towers above him at a speech at the headquarters of his presidential campaign in Des Moines, Iowa, in January 2024. Barron’s height, according to him, is the result of his consuming all the meals prepared for him by Melania’s mother Amalija Knavs, Barron’s late grandma.
According to The Daily Mail, Donald referred to Barron as a “special boy” and stated, “I told you you were going to be a basketball player,” during his address. “Well, dad, I really like soccer,” he remarked. I reasoned that although I prefer basketball to it at your height, you can’t convince them of anything.”
