Kenya’s Talanta Stadium new design has been unveiled, marking a bold shift from the initial concept shared at the start of construction. The latest renderings show adjustments, particularly in the roofing and façade, giving the facility a fresh architectural identity.
Talanta Sports City is being built as a flagship ultra-modern stadium by the Government of Kenya ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Construction began in March 2024, with President William Ruto presiding over the groundbreaking ceremony. The project, valued at KSh 44 billion, is spearheaded by the renowned China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).

The initial design showcased an oval-shaped roof curving all the way to the floor, with open latticework to maximize natural lighting and airflow. While visually striking, this concept was expected to increase costs, especially in roofing. The walls in that version were understated, mostly hidden beneath the roofing curves.
The new Talanta Stadium design instead embraces a more traditional elliptical form. Its walls are adorned with Kenyan Shield motifs, giving the arena a patriotic cultural identity. This updated structure also introduces modern features such as a 1,000-capacity car park and two adjacent training grounds, making it a complete sports complex.

Currently, the construction is at the roofing stage, with contractors working day and night to meet the December 31 completion deadline. Once finished, the stadium will join Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, and Nyayo National Stadium in hosting AFCON 2027.

The transformation reflects Kenya’s ambition to deliver world-class sports infrastructure while balancing cost efficiency and aesthetics. Despite moving away from the futuristic curved design, the Talanta Stadium new design promises to remain one of East and Central Africa’s most eye-catching sporting venues.
