Stadion Manahan, located in the heart of Surakarta (also known as Solo), Central Java, Indonesia, is one of the most important multi-purpose stadiums in the region. With a capacity of 20,000 spectators post-renovation, the stadium plays host to a variety of sporting events, primarily football matches, and serves as the home ground for Persis Solo. This iconic stadium holds a special place in Indonesian sports history, having hosted some of the country’s most prestigious events, including the ASEAN Para Games and the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

History and Construction

Stadion Manahan was constructed between 1989 and 1998, with its official inauguration taking place on February 21, 1998, by Indonesian President Suharto. The stadium was built on 170,000 m² of land and features a 33,300 m² building area. It was designed to be a state-of-the-art venue for national and international competitions, with a focus on athletics and football. The 20,000-seat stadium has hosted a range of events, from local football tournaments to international athletic competitions.


Renovations and Upgrades

In 2019, Stadion Manahan underwent a major revitalization to enhance its facilities and meet international standards. The renovation included the installation of single seating throughout the stadium, which reduced its capacity from 25,000 to 20,000. Additional upgrades included:

  • Improved lighting system with a 2,200 to 2,400 lux standard for broadcast-quality lighting.
  • Enhanced security measures, including sophisticated CCTV systems.
  • Emergency evacuation capabilities, ensuring the stadium can be emptied within 15 minutes.
  • Upgraded broadcasting and press facilities.

The renovations have transformed the stadium into a mini Bung Karno Stadium (GBK), improving its appeal for international tournaments.

  • 2006 Liga Indonesia Final: Between Persik Kediri and PSIS Semarang.
  • 2007 AFC Champions League: As the home of Persik Kediri.
  • ASEAN Para Games: Hosted the 2011 and 2022 editions, making it the first stadium in Indonesia to host the largest disabled sporting event in Southeast Asia.
  • 2010 AFF U-16 Youth Championship.
  • 2013 AFC Cup: As the home of Persibo Bojonegoro.
  • 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup: It hosted key matches for the prestigious tournament.
  • 2024 ASEAN Championship and U-23 Asian Cup qualification matches.

Stadion Manahan is synonymous with Persis Solo, a football club with a passionate following.
