How to send money from Kenya to Sierra Leone on mobile

You can send money from Kenya to Sierra Leone on your mobile using international money transfer services such as WorldRemit, Western Union, and MoneyGram. These services offer various receiving options, including direct transfers to mobile money accounts and cash pickup. 

Using WorldRemit

WorldRemit allows you to send funds directly to a mobile money account with network partners in Sierra Leone, or for cash pickup.

  1. Create an account on the WorldRemit app or website.
  2. Select Sierra Leone as the receive country and choose your preferred receive method, such as Mobile Money or Cash Pickup.
  3. Enter the recipient’s details (full name matching their ID, mobile number, etc.).
  4. Enter the amount in Kenyan Shillings (KES) you wish to send and pay using a bank transfer, debit card, or credit card.
  5. Most transfers to mobile money or for cash pickup are completed within minutes. 

Using M-PESA Global via Western Union 

M-PESA Global enables transfers for cash collection at Western Union agent locations in Sierra Leone.

  1. Opt in to M-PESA Global via the My Safaricom App or by dialing *334# and accepting the terms.
  2. Open the M-PESA App or dial the USSD code and select “M-PESA Global”.
  3. Choose “Western Union Location” as the receiving method.
  4. Follow the prompts to enter the recipient’s full name (as it appears on their ID), the destination, and the amount.
  5. Confirm the transaction details and enter your M-PESA PIN.
  6. Share the provided tracking number (MTCN) with the recipient, who will need it and their ID to collect the cash at a local Western Union agent in Sierra Leone. 

Using MoneyGram

MoneyGram also allows sending money to Sierra Leone via their app for cash pickup at various locations. 

  1. Download the MoneyGram app.
  2. Select Sierra Leone as the destination and choose cash pickup as the delivery method.
  3. Enter the recipient’s details and pay for your transfer in the app.
  4. Share the reference number with your recipient for cash collection. 

Always compare the exchange rates and fees across different providers to ensure you get the best value for your transfer.
