How to Invest 1 Million Shillings in Kenya (Tips and Ideas)

You can send money from Kenya to Lesotho on mobile using services like Mukuru and WorldRemit, as well as through M-PESA Global partners like Western Union. Direct M-PESA to M-Pesa Lesotho transfers might be limited, so alternative methods primarily use third-party apps for cash pickup, bank deposits, or specific mobile wallets like Econet Ecocash.

Using Dedicated Money Transfer Apps

These apps allow you to pay using methods like M-PESA, a bank transfer, or a debit/credit card from Kenya, with various payout options in Lesotho.

  • Mukuru: Offers the ability to send money for instant cash collection at their booths or trusted Payout Partners in Lesotho, or directly to an Econet Ecocash mobile wallet. You can download the Mukuru App to initiate transfers.
  • WorldRemit: Enables transfers to bank accounts or cash pickup locations in Lesotho. You can use the WorldRemit App to check availability and specific receive methods.
  • MoneyGram: Facilitates transfers to thousands of cash pickup locations (like Ecobank, BGFI Bank) or directly to bank accounts in Lesotho. You can use the MoneyGram App to start a transfer.

Using M-PESA Global via Partners

You can use your M-PESA account to fund a money transfer through M-PESA’s international partners like Western Union. The recipient will then collect the money in cash at an agent location in Lesotho.

Via the M-PESA App or USSD

  1. Access the M-PESA Global service on the M-PESA App or by dialing *334#.
  2. Select a partner such as Western Union from the list of options.
  3. Choose the option to send money to a cash pickup location in Lesotho.
  4. Enter the recipient’s full name exactly as it appears on their ID document, their phone number, and the amount in KES.
  5. Confirm the transaction and share the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) with the recipient.
  6. The recipient can use the MTCN and a valid ID to collect the cash in Lesotho Maloti (LSL) at a local agent location.

Always compare exchange rates and fees across different providers to find the most cost-effective option for your transfer.
