President William Ruto has put forward Beatrice Askul Moe as his nominee for the position of Cabinet Secretary for East African Community (EAC) Affairs and Regional Development. This nomination was announced by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei.
Moe, a social scientist, has previously held the role of County Executive Committee Member for Water, Irrigation, Agriculture, and Land Reclamation in the Turkana County Government. She also participated in selecting Raila Odinga’s running mate during the 2022 presidential election.
Koskei highlighted Moe’s extensive experience, noting her past roles as Director of the Rift Valley Water Services Board, Chairperson of its Technical and Audit Committees, Project Officer for AMREF Kenya’s Turkana Project, and Relief Officer for Oxfam Turkana.
Moe holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences (Social Work) from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) and is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Governance and Ethics. She has also completed several certifications, including courses in County Induction, Corporate Governance, Audit Committees, and community-based development.
If approved by Parliament, Moe will replace Peninah Malonza, who was removed from the previous cabinet. In addition to this nomination, President Ruto has also proposed Dorcas Agik Oduor for Attorney General. Oduor is currently the Secretary of Public Prosecutions at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
