President William Ruto has nominated Dorcas Oduor to succeed Justin Muturi as Kenya’s Attorney General. Muturi has been recently appointed as the Public Service Cabinet Secretary. Currently, Oduor serves as the Secretary of Public Prosecutions at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Oduor is a High Court advocate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and a Master’s in International Conflict Management, both from the University of Nairobi.
President Ruto announced the nomination, stating, “The presidential nominations sent to Parliament include Ms. Dorcas Agik Oduor, SC, EBS, OGW, for the role of Attorney General of Kenya.” He praised Oduor’s extensive legal experience, which spans over thirty years in the public sector.
If confirmed by Parliament, Oduor will become Kenya’s first female Attorney General. Her nomination follows the recent recall of Rebecca Miano, who was initially nominated for this position but is now slated to become the Tourism Cabinet Secretary.
Oduor’s nomination is part of President Ruto’s effort to create a more inclusive government, which also includes Beatrice Askul Moe as the Cabinet Secretary for East African Community Affairs and Regional Development. Additionally, several senior leaders from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have been appointed to various roles in the new government.
