Apple iPhone Air debuts with 5.6mm slim body, A19 Pro chip, and 6.5” ProMotion display

The long-rumored Apple iPhone Air has finally arrived, introducing Apple’s boldest design shift in years. At just 5.6mm thick, it becomes the thinnest iPhone ever produced. Apple describes it as “a paradox you have to hold to believe,” emphasizing its balance between sleekness and performance.

Replacing the underwhelming iPhone 16 Plus, the iPhone Air boasts a 6.5-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display with ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate. The screen supports up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness and features Apple’s updated Ceramic Shield 2 protection, ensuring both durability and vibrant visuals.

In order to achieve such a slim design, Apple has made sacrifices in the camera department. The iPhone Air carries a single 48MP rear sensor, complemented by an 18MP front-facing camera with Center Stage. While the dual and triple camera setups of the Pro models are absent, Apple claims its computational photography enhancements will deliver high-quality results.

Powering the device is the Apple A19 Pro chip, featuring a 6-core CPU and 5-core GPU. Apple says the performance rivals MacBook Pro levels, making the Air one of the most capable slim smartphones on the market. Connectivity also sees a leap forward with the debut of the Apple N1 chip, enabling Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0, alongside the new Apple C1X modem, which doubles wireless speeds while reducing power consumption by 30% compared to the iPhone 16 Pro’s Snapdragon X71 modem.

Battery capacity figures remain undisclosed, but Apple promises all-day battery life. To extend usage, the company is offering an optional low-profile MagSafe battery accessory for $99, which boosts video playback to 40 hours.

The iPhone Air will be available in Space Black, Cloud White, Light Gold, and Sky Blue. Pricing begins at $999 for the 256GB model, with pre-orders opening on September 12 in 63 countries including the US, UK, India, Japan, and Australia. Deliveries start on September 19, with a second wave of 22 more countries receiving the device on September 26.

By combining ultra-slim design, high-end performance, and modern connectivity, the Apple iPhone Air positions itself as a premium choice for users who value portability without sacrificing power.
