Omondi sustained the injury in October of last year during a friendly game played in Turkey against Russia.
Bryne Omondi, the custodian for the Harambee Stars, is eager to clear all fitness tests, make his debut against Bandari, and go back to the form that won him a spot on the national team the previous season.
Omondi transferred from KCB to the Dockers during the mid-season transfer window, but he hasn’t made his debut for the coastal team yet.
The caretaker disclosed that he was exerting immense effort to restore his physical condition following an ankle sprain sustained during national team play.
Omondi picked up the injury in October last year during a friendly match against Russia that was played in Turkey after falling awkwardly while attempting to stop an opponent from scoring early in the game.
The former Mathare United gloveman voiced his desire to gain the green light from the medical staff and battle for playing time at Bandari.
If Omondi’s desire comes true, he will play Joseph Ochuka, Bandari’s top choice right now who has been called up to many national teams.
“I’ve been doing light training, and maybe I’ll get cleared shortly to play for the team. I’m eager for that day,” Omondi remarked.
His career had been progressing both at the club and national team levels before to the injury. After defeating more experienced strategists, he had made a name for himself on the national team.
The former Tusker man maintained his hopes of leading the Stars throughout the competition, even if the CHAN Championships are scheduled to take place in Kenya later this year.
Kenya will also participate in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
“My goal is to get back into the national team.” The former Posta Rangers goalkeeper continued, “I always have the overseas missions ahead of us in mind whenever I go out for light training and recovery.
