Noah Lyles vs Letsile Tebogo: Sprint Clash Returns to London in 2025
Reigning world and Olympic sprint champion Noah Lyles is set to renew his rivalry with Letsile Tebogo at the London Athletics Meet on July 19, marking a pivotal step in his quest to defend his world titles in Tokyo later this year.
The American sprinter has a strong track record in London, where he has consistently posted some of his career-best performances. In 2023, Lyles clocked a season-best 19.47 in the 200m, defeating Tebogo in a thrilling showdown.
Lyles Looks to Extend Dominance in London
One month after his 2023 London triumph, Lyles went on to sweep the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m at the World Championships in Budapest, underlining his dominance in global sprinting. In 2024, he again stormed to victory in London with a 100m personal best of 9.81, before slicing it down to 9.79 seconds at the Paris Olympics, where he claimed the gold.
Now in 2025, Lyles is looking to add another London victory to his resume as he eyes the World Championships in Tokyo in September. Speaking to World Athletics, he remarked:
“My road to defending my world titles in Tokyo in September goes through London. I’ve had great experiences there the last two years, running some of my fastest times, and I look forward to another in July.”
A Rivalry Reignited
This year’s London showdown will mark a highly anticipated rematch between Noah Lyles and Letsile Tebogo, who famously beat Lyles in the 100m final at the 2024 Olympics. The two sprinters now head into this year’s clash with everything to prove in the run-up to Tokyo.
Lyles, who already boasts four individual world titles, is expected to bring both fire and form as he recently opened his outdoor season with a personal best of 45.87 in the 400m, a strong indicator of his fitness.
What’s at Stake
With the World Championships approaching, this race could set the tone for the season’s biggest stage. Both sprinters are in top form and eager to claim psychological advantage ahead of Tokyo.
