Kenyan content creator and actress Tabitha Gatwiri, widely recognized for her vibrant personality and comedic skits, has tragically passed away. Gatwiri reportedly fell ill two days prior to her death and was later found lifeless in her home by her brother, who became alarmed after she failed to respond to calls. He subsequently entered her residence, discovering the heartbreaking scene. Her body is now at Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital.
The news of Gatwiri’s passing was first shared on social media by fellow content creator Alex Mathenge, who expressed his condolences on Instagram, saying, “Go Well Gatwiri. Fly with the angels, ‘Celeb’.” Other Kenyan personalities, including Kelvin Kinuthia and comedian MC Bull, joined in mourning, with Kinuthia expressing his shock and sadness, writing, “Rest in peace, Tabitha Gatwiri. Words cannot express the sorrow I feel for your loss.”
Gatwiri, aged 29, was beloved for her comedic skits on social media, capturing everyday Kenyan life with a humorous twist, often using her Meru accent to bring characters to life. Her content resonated with many fans and quickly gained her a significant following on platforms like YouTube, where she earned the Silver Button in 2021 in recognition of her rising influence.
Fans and colleagues across Kenya have taken to social media to express their condolences, with many celebrating Gatwiri’s impact and influence. Muchiri Gichuri remembered her as a “talented and vibrant young content creator” whose creativity was an inspiration, while Mwenda Thuranira highlighted her contributions to the representation of the Meru community on Kenya’s social media stage.
Tabitha Gatwiri’s last video skit, titled Kipenzi Merimela, was posted just days before her passing. Her unique voice and lively personality will be dearly missed, and her memory lives on in the cherished laughter she brought to so many.
