Nairobi, Kenya – April 30, 2025: Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were was tragically shot dead on Wednesday evening in what appears to be a targeted assassination in Nairobi.
The fatal incident occurred around 7:30 PM near the City Mortuary roundabout, a high-traffic area on the outskirts of Nairobi city centre.
Gunmen on a Motorbike
Eyewitnesses report that two assailants on a motorcycle approached the MP’s vehicle before one of them alighted and fired at close range, fatally wounding the legislator. His driver, who was present during the attack, escaped unharmed — suggesting that the MP was the sole target of the assailants.
Police Witnessed the Shooting
Traffic police officers stationed nearby are said to have witnessed the shooting. Despite efforts to save him, Were was rushed to Nairobi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Motive Remains Unknown
At this stage, the motive behind the brazen killing remains unclear. Authorities have yet to issue a detailed statement, but investigations are underway. The unknown attackers fled the scene, and no arrests have been made.
