Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC), nicknamed the Kasasiro Boys, is one of Uganda’s most successful and historic football clubs. Founded in 1963, the club is based in Kampala, Uganda’s capital, and competes in the Uganda Premier League.
The club is renowned for producing top Ugandan talent, its passionate fan base, and its dominance in both domestic and continental football. KCCA FC plays home matches at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, a 10,000-capacity ground named after club legend Phillip Omondi.
History
Foundation and Early Years (1963–1970s)
KCCA FC was founded on 12 April 1963 by Samuel Wamala, a city council employee. Initially formed by sewage works staff, the club soon expanded to include players from across Kampala City Council. By 1965, they had joined the Kampala and District Football League (KDFL), and within a decade, they had become a force in Ugandan football.
The 1970s marked their rise to national prominence. KCC gained promotion to the National League and finished second in 1974 and 1975, before claiming their first league title in 1976. They defended the crown in 1977 and went on to win the 1978 CECAFA Clubs Cup, the first Ugandan club to achieve regional success, lifting the trophy in Kampala.
Golden Era (1980s–1990s)
The 1980s were the club’s golden years, winning league titles in 1981, 1983, and 1985 and Uganda Cups in 1980, 1982, 1984, and 1987. Strikers like Davis Kamoga and Frank Kyazze became club icons with prolific scoring records.
In the 1990s, KCC secured league championships in 1991 and 1997, and Uganda Cups in 1990 and 1993, though administrative instability affected their consistency. They remained a strong presence in continental tournaments, regularly featuring in CAF competitions.
Modern Success (2000s–Present)
KCCA FC returned to dominance in the 2007–08 season, winning the league with striker Brian Umony leading the charge. More success followed with league titles in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019, and Uganda Cup wins in 2004, 2017, and 2018.
In 2019, they won their second CECAFA Clubs Cup, cementing their reputation as one of East Africa’s strongest clubs. The club has also maintained regular appearances in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, making group stage runs in 2017 and 2018.
Stadium
KCCA FC plays at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, Kampala, previously known as Phillip Omondi Stadium. With a capacity of 10,000, the stadium has hosted domestic league matches, CAF fixtures, and regional tournaments. Plans are underway to upgrade it into a modern football arena.
