How to Take a Screenshot in macOS Mojave

This article explains How to Take a Screenshot in macOS Mojave. macOS Mojave (/moʊˈhɑːvi, mə-/ mo-HAH-vee; version 10.14) is the fifteenth major release of macOS, Apple Inc.‘s desktop operating system for Macintosh computers. Mojave was announced at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference on June 4, 2018, and was released to the public on September 24, 2018. The operating system’s name refers to the Mojave Desert, and is part of a series of California-themed names that began with OS X Mavericks.[4] It succeeded macOS High Sierra and was followed by macOS Catalina.

macOS Mojave brings several iOS apps to the desktop operating system, including Apple News, Voice Memos, and Home. It also includes a more comprehensive “dark mode“, is the final version of macOS to support 32-bit application software, is the last version of the macOS capable of being booted from an HFS+ partition without third-party patching, and is also the last version of macOS to support the iPhoto app, which had already been superseded in OS X Yosemite (10.10) by the newer Photos app.

Mojave was well received and was supplemented by point releases after launch. If you are running Mojave, you can screenshot a whole screen, capture a window, capture only a section, or record a video of the screen. Here’s how to screenshot on a Mac running Mojave.

How to Screenshot the Whole Screen in macOS Mojave

  1. Press Command + Shift + 5.
  2. Click the 1st icon in the menu that pops up. The screenshot menu will be at the bottom of your screen. Click the 1st icon after the “X” button on the left. This action will turn the pointer into a camera.
  3. Click the mouse or trackpad to capture the screen. Alternatively, you can also click “Capture” on the right-hand side of the screenshot menu.
  4. A thumbnail of your image will appear in the bottom right corner of the screen. You can click the thumbnail to make changes to the image, or you can swipe it off the screen to save it faster.
  5. Your image will be saved to the desktop after a few seconds.

How to Capture a Window in macOS Mojave

  2. Click the 2nd icon in the menu that pops up. This action will turn the pointer into a camera.

  4. A thumbnail of your capture will appear briefly in the bottom right corner of your screen. You can then choose to markup, share, save, or take other actions from this thumbnail.
  5. Your image will be saved to the desktop after a few seconds.

  1. Press Shift + Command + 5.
  2. Click Options in the screenshot menu.
