My name is Rozana Abu Salim, and I am reaching out from a place of deep hardship and urgent need. My family, including my husband Rami, our 3-year-old son Ziad, and I, are residents of Gaza City, a place that has been our home and our heart. However, recent events have turned our lives into a daily struggle for survival.
Our Story
Until a few months ago, we led a relatively peaceful life. Rami was a dedicated teacher, and I took pride in caring for our home and our young son. But as the conflict in Gaza has intensified, our lives have been thrown into chaos. We are now confronted with a severe lack of essential resources. Clean water, sufficient food, and safety have become luxuries we can hardly afford.
The impact of this war has been devastating. The local infrastructure is severely damaged, and basic goods are scarce and increasingly expensive. My husband’s school was destroyed in the conflict, stripping him of his ability to work and support our family. This loss of income has hit us hard.
The Toll on Our Health
The greatest toll, however, has been on our son, Ziad. At just three years old, he faces health challenges no child should ever have to endure. The lack of nutritious food and clean water has weakened his body, and each day I see him growing a little weaker. It is every mother’s nightmare to watch her child suffer and feel helpless to stop it.
Our Hope for Safety
After much deliberation and countless sleepless nights, we’ve realized that our only chance for safety and a semblance of a normal life is to evacuate to Egypt through the Rafah crossing. Unfortunately, the cost of safe passage is between $7,000 to $9,000 per person—a sum that is far beyond our reach without assistance.
