Five behind spiking drinks in Kilifi

In a recent crackdown in Kilifi, a coastal town in Kenya, police have apprehended five individuals implicated in a series of incidents involving the spiking of drinks. The suspects, identified as Anthony Mathenge Omar (34 years old), Erick Kamau Muthoni (35 years old), Alice Wanjiku Kiarie (38 years old), Irene Wanjiru Ngige (35 years old), and Rhoda Wambui Wangama (35 years old), were arrested in Mtwapa, a bustling area known for its vibrant nightlife.

The arrest followed a police operation that traced the suspects’ activities to two vehicles, a Mazda Primacy (KCN 148Z) and a Toyota Vitz (KDG 238N), located near Mtwapa Posta. Upon intercepting the vehicles, police discovered five occupants who were immediately taken into custody.

During a thorough search of the vehicles, officers uncovered several items that pointed to a well-organized operation aimed at incapacitating victims. Found among the possessions were a grey handbag containing six tablets of medication commonly used to stupefy individuals. The haul also included various mobile phones, among them a green Tecno Spark, a black Samsung Duos, a black Itel phone, and a black Infinix phone, which are suspected to be stolen.

Additional items retrieved included a blue Vivo phone, another black Samsung phone, another black Infinix phone, and a mysterious black phone with several keys, including motor vehicle keys and a stamp from TM Security Systems. These items, along with the two vehicles, have been confiscated and are set to be used as exhibits in the case against the suspects.

The operation sheds light on a disturbing trend of criminal activities targeting unsuspecting individuals in entertainment spots, a scenario that has become all too common in many urban areas. This particular case underscores the challenges facing law enforcement in dealing with crimes that involve the use of drugs to incapacitate victims.

The arrest of these individuals is a significant win for the local police in Kilifi, who have been ramping up efforts to curb such activities. It also serves as a stern warning to others involved in similar crimes, highlighting the ongoing commitment of Kenyan police to ensuring safety and security for all citizens and visitors.

As the investigation continues, local authorities are calling on anyone who may have been a victim of such crimes or who may have information related to other similar incidents to come forward. This will aid in further dismantling networks that perpetrate these heinous crimes and help in restoring safety and confidence in the bustling nightlife of the region.
